Still life roses

I thought I’d try and take different kind of picture with these roses instead of my usual macro shots. Seeing these sitting in a pretty vase made me think back to the still life paintings in my art books from the Renaissance period, which were wonderfully done, with lots of colours, details and depth. I know that this photo is quite simplistic in comparison to those grand paintings and I’ve used a camera (because my paintbrush skills are no where near as good as I wish they were) but the composition gives it the same feel and I think lets you see the colours and details by standing back to admire the whole scene instead of up close and just seeing parts.
What do you think of my attempt? Do you think my photo could resemble a simplistic version of a still life painting or am I just being overly hopeful?
Dandelion seeds

I’ve seen some amazing photos of dandelions seeds and have tried a number of times to try and capture them on my camera. I quite like this attempt but I will keep trying as I’m confident I can get better and much closer. The tricky part is making the sure the seeds are mostly intact and that it’s not too windy as the big head of seeds on a thin stalk makes the whole thing wave about!
Beautiful new arrival

My younger sister had a lovely baby girl today and I can’t wait until they get home so I can see them both, especially my little niece who I know will be bright, beautiful and fun just like these flowers

Purple daisies
Image

These pretty African daisies are growing in our garden at the moment and I love the ombre effect of the petals from a lovely purple to white; they certainly bring an array of colour to the flower beds
Pretty Fuchsia

These pretty pendant flowers are called Fushia but have also been known to be called Ladies eardrops. They remind me of my childhood, of when I would squeeze the pod open between my fingers before nature could, and loving the little ‘pop’ sound they made (I don’t do it anymore though!). We still have some in our garden today and I love the bright colour and memories they bring throughout the year.
I’d love to hear what flowers make you smile or have a special place in your memory
