Hewitts Farm

As we head into late summer here in the UK my family and I went down to Hewitts ‘pick your own’ farm in Kent. I haven’t been for a number of years but its a trip we made every summer when my siblings and I were kids. There are rows and rows of apple and plum trees, and acres of various vegetables. Back then there was also a tractor with haybales to tow you around from one end of the farm to the other.

This time there were several vegetables and fruits ripe and ready to be picked.

A trip to the farm usually means lots of walking, bending and stretching which can be exhausting but taking in the view and clean air as you go is just what you need. Also what could be more rewarding than being able to sample what you picked yourself, which we did and really enjoyed.

Delicious Eid party

At the end of Ramadan we celebrate with a festival called Eid-al-Fitr with family, friends, good food and gifts. Evey year my sister, as an extension of this celebration, throws a Eid party for her friends. This year guests were asked to bring a dish with them for the party; whether it was a starter, main or dessert, my contribution being chocolate dipped strawberries.

Guests brought with them an array of foods from different cultures and tastes that we all shared and enjoyed. With the addition of pretty outfits and accessories I can say that we all had a great time.

Roaring good cake

My recent trip to the farm was fun and interesting and once my family and I had seen all the animals we headed over to my sister’s house to get some rest and some delicious food. Once we were all fed and relaxed it was time to cut the birthday cake my sister had made for her daughter. Weeks of preparation had gone into making the cake and the end result was brilliant. It was colourful, fun and neatly fitted into the theme of the day; animals.

My sister made all the animal cake figures from scratch as well as the cake and the matching cupcakes. I love all the details of the animals and how the rest of the table was tied in with animal toys scattered around the table and animal characters on the cups, plates and napkins.

Once the candle was lit and blown out by the birthday girl we all tucked in, and enjoyed a cake that tasted as good as it looked.

I wish the birthday girl good health, happiness and love for all the years ahead of her.

Cream cake

Two of nieces happen to have their birthdays on the same day, which was last week, so over the weekend we all got together for good food, presents, fun, and delicious fresh cream, strawberry and chocolate cake.

Burger party

A few weeks ago my sister-in-law invited my mum, sisters, the kids and me over for lunch. We knew the food would be good as my sister-in-law always makes delicious food but we were in for a real treat when she revealed the theme of burgers and milkshakes. She made the burgers at home using her own recipe and even managed to get hold of shop burger boxes to put them in.
Extra touches such as tiny American style flags and little boxes for the chips to sit in pulled the whole theme together.

We had some refreshing homemade strawberry and chocolate milkshakes in cute glass milk bottles, and to finish off we had sweet and sticky glazed doughnuts.

We all really enjoyed the good food and had lots of fun playing games for the rest of the afternoon.

Tea curiosity

People in England are known for being big tea drinkers as are people in Pakistan, and being a British Pakistani you’d think that I would be a big tea fan too, but when it comes to hot drinks I just don’t feel that I need them (exception being the odd hot chocolate in Winter). Tea and tea time in London is very popular at the moment. There are so many places that you can go for tea and cake; posh, quaint, in castles, even one with cats to play with in between. And for tea in the comfort of your own home there are even more, including this curious place I came across, selling very pretty china and soothing teas.

Although I’m not really a tea drinker I am a fan of anything that’s quirky, pretty and takes my curiosity, and this being the case I just had to go and explore. There were teapots and teacups beautifully embellished as well as spoons, saucers and anything else tea-related, on colourful inviting displays; all of which together is any photographers delight!

What really took my interest though was the amazing variety of types of tea available, ones I’d never heard of and looked nothing like a typical tea leaf.

I didn’t buy anything on this trip but I’m certain I will pop in again, perhaps to treat some tea-lovers I know and maybe even sample something myself.

Robot cupcakes

My sister made these cute cupcakes for my nephew for his recent party. I really like the bright colour contrast of the yellow and blue and I’m pleased to say that they tasted as good as they looked.

Superhero styled fun

My youngest nephew recently finished reading the Quran and to celebrate his mum threw him a superhero themed party. There were some really fun decorations and foods, both a delight to the eyes and tastebuds. I really liked the comic skyline selfie wall and the comic masks and captions. I also thought the party boxes were a really nice touch.

There was good food to enjoy and the cake went down well too, but the kids had a field day with all the sweets they managed to get their hands on and the prizes they won.
