This bronze statue called ‘The Meeting Place’ can be found at London St Pancras station and is made by the artist Paul Day. You may not be able to tell by the photo but this statue is huge, standing at 30 feet tall. My favourite part though, is the giant handbag on the woman’s shoulder and the backpack that the man has, which I’ve been told changes every so often for advertising

Comic Con London 2013

Last weekend in London there was a Comic Con event, and being a bit of a self-confessed geek I just had to go. I’ve been meaning to go to one of these events for a few years now but have never managed to get round to it for some reason or another. This year I knew my brother-in-law was going so asked him to get tickets for me and my sister.

Now I wasn’t sure what to expect from an event like this; I know the main and biggest one is held in San Diego, USA, which I hope to go to one day, and I’d seen on American TV shows and films, conventions and events such as this that always seem to attract a large following, but I’ve always felt that these kind of events would be a bit more toned down in Britain, with people enjoying such an experience but being a bit reserved about their passion for comics and films…boy was I wrong!

When we got to the Excel Centre in London where the event was being held there were so many people, outside and in, with many of them dressed as characters from comics, films and other popular shows – I thought it was great

There were stalls selling original drawings of comic characters, as well as classes you could attend to show you how to draw in different styles. There were several actors there for signings and photos and just lots of quirky things to look at and buy

I really hope to go again next year and maybe even be brave enough to dress up myself, but for now here’s some photos which I took on my digital camera. I found the lighting at the venue not quite bright enough, so some photos aren’t as clear as I would have liked. Maybe I’ll take my DSLR next time.

I would love to hear from others that were at the event this weekend or have been to similar events in the past, and hear what you found interesting or any tips that you’d like to share

Colourful bangles

I love the rich colours and the traditional style of these bangles, which are typically used to add a bit of bling or sparkle to an outfit. This pair can be found here if you’d like to know more

Pretty hem

Pretty hem
This is the hem from my outfit I wore on Eid. I love the colour combination and detail of the embroidery. Eid al Fitr is the celebration that comes after a month of fasting and I enjoyed the day with my family eating lots of great food and sharing lovely gifts. See my sisters’ blogs Happy Muslim Mama; Harlequin Tea Set and JoJo Jeenius for their accounts of the day
